What’s the Difference Between Oil-Based Finishes and Water-Based Finishes?
Compared to water-based finishes, oil-based polyurethane is stronger and lasts longer. Oil-based finishes do not need to be re-coated as much as water-based finishes, however, they do require more drying time in between coats. Oil dries and cures better than water, and is more scratch and wear-resistant. It’s also important to note that oil-based polys have a higher VOC level than water.
