Poloplaz Supreme Polyurethane Matte Oil-based Hardwood Finish – 1 Gal
Oil Based Floor Finishes
Unfinished hardwood floors require sealing and finishing after they’ve been installed and sanded. This is where oil-based sealers, water-based sealers, and water-based finishes, as well as other floor prep products, prove their value.Â
Oil-based finishes are meant to ensure durability, resistance to staining, scratching, and other types of floor damage. They are known for containing 45-50% solids, which offers a more protective finish than water-based products. Also, they are less expensive and require less maintenance over time. Oil-based finishes leave an amber glow and require fewer coats than water-based polyurethane.
The First Atlanta Flooring shop carries brands like Craftsman, DuraSeal, Poloplaz, and Bona. These brands have come up with different types of oil based finishes for wood floors, meant to deliver the results you want. Are you looking for a satin, semi-gloss, matte, or gloss finish? FAQ
What are the differences between water-based and oil-based polyurethane? Both oil- and water-based polyurethane are like a coat of armor for the hardwood floor below, protecting the wood from damage. Oil-based finish is thicker than water-based finishes, meaning oil-based poly is more durable and lasts longer than the water-based alternative. More than that, oil-based finish is easier to apply, provides a natural finish, and gives a glossier, shinier appearance. Still, oil-based polyurethane takes longer to dry and cure, and only one coat of oil-based poly can be applied to a hardwood floor in 24 hours.
