Sanding Belts

Sanding belts can be used in various ways, and they’re an indispensable item in any flooring professional’s toolkit. They’re used to smooth out the rough surface of the hardwood planks and create an even, level surface, preparing it for the next steps of the finishing or refinishing process.

The truth is that sanding and finishing hardwood floors can be quite a chore if you don’t have the right tools to work with. Sanding belts are an essential accessory here, next to other items such as: sanding discs, edger discs, sanding screens, buffer pads, sanding papers, edger pads, and rolls.

Sanding belts are attached to sander machines, and they consist of a loop of rotating sandpaper that makes stripping and sanding the floor quick and easy. Sanding belts are great for leveling out the floor and preparing it for a finer sand, and they’re incredibly useful when you have a large area to cover. Paired with a high-quality sanding machine, sanding belts make sanding floors a breeze, and you can use different types of belts according to the needs of your project.

Usually, the gritty surface of a sanding belt is made of aluminum oxide. However, for grits of 80 and coarser, brands usually use either zirconia or ceramic belts, which are tougher, sharper, they cut more aggressively, last longer, and don’t clog as easily. That’s why zirconia and ceramic sanding belts cost slightly more than the aluminum alternatives, but tend to provide superior results.
